Pick the format by how you want the scent to behave, not by size. A diffuser holds a steady low level for weeks. A room spray is instant and gone within hours. They solve different problems, and the commonest mistake is buying one expecting the other's behaviour.

Reed diffusers

Reeds standing in scented oil wick it upward and release it continuously. There is nothing to switch on and nothing to remember. Best for a hallway, bathroom or any room you want to smell consistently pleasant without thinking about it.

Controlling the strength: use fewer reeds to start and add more if you want more throw. Flip the reeds about once a week to refresh the saturated ends. A warm or draughty room will use it up faster.
