If there is no light and no vapour, the problem is almost always airflow rather than battery. Something is blocking the path the air takes through the device, so the draw sensor never triggers. That is good news: airflow problems are usually fixable in under a minute, and the fix costs nothing.

Work through these in order — they are ranked by how often each one is the answer.

1. Check the airflow intake for a sticker

Manufacturers frequently ship devices with a small sticker or silicone plug over the intake hole to stop leaking in transit. It is usually on the base or along the bottom edge, and it is genuinely easy to miss on a black device. Peel it off and try again.

2. Clear condensation from the mouthpiece

Vapour condenses back to liquid inside the airway, especially in a pocket or a cold car. Invert the device, draw hard two or three times to push the condensation out, then wipe the mouthpiece opening with a dry cotton bud or a corner of tissue.

Do not push a pin, paperclip or toothpick down the airway. It is the fastest way to puncture something that should not be punctured.

3. Draw slower and longer, not harder

Draw-activated devices trigger on sustained airflow, not force. A short sharp pull can fail to register where a slow steady one works. If you are used to a tighter device, this alone explains a lot of apparent failures.

4. Warm it up

Cold thickens e-liquid to the point where it will not wick properly, and a device left in a car overnight in winter can seem completely dead. Hold it in a closed hand for ten minutes at room temperature before concluding anything.

5. Charge it, if it can be charged

Some devices go fully silent rather than blinking when the cell is flat. If there is a USB-C port, give it thirty minutes. If the light comes on but you still get no vapour, the fault is the coil or an empty tank rather than the battery — and if it is blinking rather than silent, that is a different problem with a different answer.

When the device is genuinely faulty
